DJ AMIR – I DON’T KNOW

By this point – I’m sure you’ve heard plenty of Dilla tribute mixes and probably been to dedication parties up the wazoo.  We’d like to cover new ground with respects to the musical legacy my dearly departed friend has left us.  I had a dream to make the Bling47 Breaks series about 4 years ago now.  I knew nothing about filming or editing at the time, but I decided to try my luck and do something instead of just imagining it.  This project has been a labor of love.  All filmed, edited, animated and colored by me over the last 2 years.  I’ve had many learning curves during this self-imposed “YouTube film school” but it’s been well worth it.

Each piece in this video series shows a journey of how Dilla’s music has touched some of my favorite DJ and Producers.  How his manipulation of breaks from the past have given us some of the brightest moments to this day.  I asked everyone to go into their own private record stashes and pick out their favorite Jay Dee samples.  I’d personally like to thank everyone for taking time to share with me their joy for music.

My first webisode is with Boston’s own DJ Amir.  Amir is no stranger to the breaks and Dilla himself – as they had worked together for many years.   Amir has an huge history, deeply rooted in the now legendary breakbeat compilations with his partner in crime, Kon.  Amir currently resides in the Spanish Harlem section of New York where we shot this first piece.

Enjoy
